Five ordained to the diaconate at St. Mark's Cathedral

   the Homilist, Deacons Kay Smith Hunter, and Michael Wayne Millard.

Five new deacons were created in services held at St. Mark's Cathedral in Shreveport, Saturday, June 7, 2008. Ordained to the Sacred Order of the Deacons were: Kay Smith Hunter, Bette Jo Kauffinan, Morgan Montelepre MacIntire, Michael Wayne Millard, and Mary Brownfield Richard.

The Rt. Rev'd D. Bruce MacPherson, III Bishop of Western Louisiana, performed the ordinations and was celebrant at the Festival Eucharist that was attended by a large audience of well wishers from throughout the Diocese.

The Homilist was the Rt. Rev'd Gethin B. Hughes, retired Bishop of San Diego. Bishop Hughes recently finished a period of service as the Interim Dean of St. Mark's Cathedral, where the ordination service was held.

Deacons Hunter and Kauffman will be Permanent Deacons, while Deacons MacIntire, Millard, and Richard are Transitional Deacons, and will be ordained to the priesthood after a suitable period of service.
