To better facilitate missionary activities, and as an aid to communications and coordination, the diocese is divided into five convocations: Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles and Acadiana. Each convocation has a dean who must be a priest at a parish within the convocation. Deans are appointed by the bishop and serve three-year terms. Convocational deans have charge of the vacant missions within their convocations and deacons-in-charge of missions are under the direction of the convocational dean. In addition to supporting mission work within their convocations, member parishes and missions meet annually to nominate and/or elect representatives to various diocesan bodies such as the Diocesan Council and Standing Committee.
