"I know that our Redeemer lives!"

Bishop MacPherson's April 2008 message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christians are Easter people! We place our faith in a Living Lord who conquered sin and death; a Living Lord who rose from the grave; a Living Lord who showed the world that Divine Love is the greatest power in all creation; a Living Lord who not only was among us in the flesh some two thousand years ago, but lives now! "Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." [1 Corinthians 15:57]

I pray your focus on Christ's passion and death was one of truly knowing the Easter victory would be a joyful conclusion; that the Cross is a necessary prelude to Resurrection joy in our Lord's life and in ours. But now, the seal of the tomb is broken - Christ lives! The news of this is Good News for all of us, for the defeat of death's finality is shared with all who call Jesus Lord. His gift to us is eternal life, and our Easter Communion brought us this gift of the Saviour's life in a special way as we received his Body and Blood.

May God grant to you, and to those you love, the joys and challenges of Eastertide so that we might be living witnesses of our Living Lord as we share in the ministry to which God has called us.

Faithfully in the Light of the Risen Christ,

The Rt. Rev’d D. Bruce MacPherson, D.D.
III Bishop of Western Louisiana
