Resolutions adopted by Convention
Four resolutions were offered, three were adopted at the 29th annual Convention of the Diocese of Western Louisiana held in Alexandria, October 10-11, 2008.
A request was made and ratified by Convention that all votes on resolutions were to be taken by orders and should by written ballot. (A vote by orders is a vote in which the votes of the clergy and lay orders are tabulated separately. For the proposition being voted on to be adopted, that proposition must pass in both orders.)
All resolutions were submitted to the Resolutions Committee chaired by Canon Gregg L. Riley, rector of Grace, Monroe.
At a Resolutions Committee meeting held Saturday morning, all resolutions were considered and then reported out without recommendation. At that meeting the author of Resolution Four accepted one minor wording change.
Chairman Riley introduced each resolution to Convention and an explanation of the resolution was offered by its author and debate followed.
Resolution One, offered by the Vestry of St. Michael & All Angels, Lake Charles, "Resolved that the Diocese of Western Louisiana fully agrees with the Statement of the Primates' Council of GAFCON on the alleged deposition of the Bishop of Pittsburg last month by the House of Bishops."
Resolution One failed to gain adoption. The vote was as follows: Lay order 33 yes, 91 no; Clergy order 12 yes, 36 no.
Resolution Two, offered by St. Mark's Cathedral and several Convention delegates, ask that Convention "fully reaffirm its commitment to the Windsor Principles, including in principle, the adoption of an Anglican Covenant."
Resolution Two was adopted. The vote was: Lay Order 104 yes, 16 no; Clergy order 36 yes, 13 no.
Resolution Three, offered by St. Mark's Cathedral and several Convention delegates, ask that Convention "affirm its full support for the Communion Partners initiative."
